There are two options for quilting, which does affect the cost:
Edge-to-Edge
If you know you want a computerized quilted design, we use pantographs. You may choose from our collection or pick one from an online designer (our favorite is Urban Elementz). We will split the cost of the panto with you. If you're not sure what you would like, we will help you choose something appropriate. We have pantos in everything from flowers to geometrics to novelty designs. Edge-to-edge is a penny and a half a square inch. For example, a 60" x 75" quilt has 4,500 square inches. At a penny and a half, it would cost $67.50.
Purchase Batting or Bring Your Own
If you do not have batting, no problem! We have Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 cotton/poly blend, which is made of the finest American grown cotton and very fine polyester. The rolls are 96" wide, so you pay for it by yard ($8/yard). Because machine-quilting requires that the batting is slightly larger than the top, you will need to add at least two inches all the way around your top. For example, if your top is 80"x90" you will need 84" x 94" of batting. The rolls are 96" wide and you would need 2-1/2 yards. The cost for the batting would be = $20.00. King-sized batting is available in a bag for $39.99. Additional batting types are available on a limited bases at an additional cost.
Thread
Choose from a variety of thread for a flat $5 fee. We carry King Tut, Superior, and Glide threads in both solid and variegated colors. We can use Bottom Line for the bobbin, which comes in white, off-white, and black. If you would prefer to have the same color on both the top and bottom of your quilt, there is an additional $5 bobbin fee.
Click on the color charts below to see the highlighted colors we have in stock. Other colors could be ordered, as well. Keep in mind the color of thread on the computer screen may be slightly different in person, but they give you an idea of what you might want to use for your quilt.

Preparing your quilt
Before arriving with your quilt,
- make sure both the top and quilt back is clean, pressed, and free from any marking or loose threads. If we need to prepare the top or backing, there is an additional charge of $10.
- both the quilt backing and batting must be a minimum of 4" wider and longer than the quilt top. Please make sure the backing is square and ready to be loaded onto the machine.
- When choosing a backing fabric, you may either piece it or purchase an extra-wide backing fabric. If you piece it, make sure to press the seam flat.
Additional Services
Complete Machine Binding
If you would rather not bind the quilt yourself, we can do that for you. We will sew the binding on by machine, both front and back, taking care to "stitch in the ditch" for a clean affect. The cost is $15 for any quilt under queen size (90" x 95") and $20 for anything larger. Plan to provide 3/4 to 1 yard of fabric for binding.
Hand-Binding
For this process, the binding is machine sewn to the front of the quilt and then wrapped around and hand-stitched in place with hidden stitches. Because this process is much more time-intensive, the cost is $30 for any quilt under queen size (90" x 95") and $40 for anything larger.
Partial Machine Binding
For those who prefer to hand-bind their quilts, we will machine-sew the binding on your quilt and leave it for you to hand-bind. The cost is $10 for any quilt under queen size (90" x 95") and $15 for anything larger.
Sleeve for Hanging
Quilts can be hung on rods by creating a sleeve on the back of the quilt. This is all hand-stitched and requires both materials (usually muslin fabric) and time for stitching. The basic rate is $20 per sleeve up to 90" wide. The rate for any quilt larger than that will depend upon the size. For antique quilts that do not have a designated top, we recommend putting a sleeve on both the top and bottom. That way, it can be rotated from time to time to keep the weight of the quilt from stretching it out of shape.
Machine Basting
For those who prefer to quilt for themselves either by machine or by hand, we do offer the option of machine basting. The cost for this service is .05 cents per square inch. For example, a 45" by 45" quilt is 2,025 square inches. The cost would be $10.12. Backing needs to be at least 4" wider and longer than the quilt. Batting is available for an additional cost. Basting is generally stitches per inch and can be performed in a 6" to 10" grid pattern depending upon the quilter's choice.
